Definition
This category concerns legal options and restrictions that might apply when an abusive partner has (or is trying to access) guns, firearms, and other weapons. This includes how protective orders/restraining orders affect who can purchase or possess firearms and ammunition, and laws that prohibit people who have been convicted of certain domestic violence crimes from buying or owning firearms. It also includes notifications that domestic violence offenders must receive from governments about federal firearm prohibitions under the Violence Against Woman Act (2005). Some states have additional restrictions on access to weapons by those who have been convicted of domestic violence, or who have protective orders against them.
